Availability
I am a middle school teacher, making my morning availability early, but my afternoon and evening availability much more flexible. I walk my dog at a brisk 6:30am every day and practice training her when I get home from school. Long walks at night are a wonderful past time if we don’t go on a hike or to the dog park. My dog Laika also comes camping with us frequently. My cat loves a cozy indoor day with the rain, but will turn to chaos if he is not fed on his self proclaimed feeding schedule.

About Samantha A.
Communication
Safety, trust & environment
My dog was a rescue from a euthanasia shelter and brought with her a lot of anxiety. She was unable to be around anyone other than my husband and myself without peeing on the floor and cowering for 3 days. I slowly brought her comfort and safety by building in routines, showing her compassion and patience, and doing a lot of training. After 3 years, she greets people now and lives a very active and joyful life. My cat is very intelligent, but developed a life threatening chronic condition that has required careful and constant ongoing care. He is thriving now and has even learned to “sit” and “come” on command. With all the animals I have cared for, fear and anxiety have consistently been the biggest hindrance to their ability to thrive - and I recognize the absence of their people contributes to this. I ensure that animals are comfortable and their routines are maintained to best alleviate any stress. Long walks and lots of cuddles help immensely and are my favorite part!
Information Samantha A. would like to know about your pet
Let me know if your dog has any specific anxieties or behaviors beforehand. If there is anything they may need that might not be typical, I’d love to know so as to best prepare!
A typical day
I love getting dogs to use their brain. Lick mats, engaging toys, frozen treats, training practice, and walks/runs have all helped my dogs immensely over the years. I love getting creative with each new pup!

Cat care experience
I’ve taken care of cats for a decade now, and have had my own for 5 years. With his own health concerns, I’ve learned a lot about medication administration and calmly coaxing cats to be comfortable during times of distress. I know how distressing it can be to have their beloved owners away, so I love to make sure cats feel safe and comforted, whether that’s through chin scratches or being given space.
