I work remote and have a flexible schedule. If drop-ins provide wifi access, I'm happy to occasionally gift a free hour or many hours of working next to your pet in your home, with occasional play, petting & attention on non-holiday weeks & depending on my schedule that day (this is in addition to your dedicated drop-in time where your pet gets my full attention).

About Deborah L.

Safety, trust & environment
😺 Keeping a safe, clean & healthy environment for your pet is my priority! I'm meticulous in following care instructions for your pet :). 🏡 Considerate & respectful of rules/preferences you have for your home. Will always respect your privacy! 🦠 For safety of other animals, please inform me of fleas, feline herpes (possible or confirmed), or other contagious pet illnesses (i.e., URI, Giardia, FCV, FVR, panleuk, ringworm), or parasites/protozoal BEFORE I meet your pets. Cat colds are generally contagious. Knowing in advance helps me avoid scheduling time with other cats right after seeing yours & do any necessary disinfection. I am unable to care for cats with fleas, scabies, roundworm, ringworm, or any infection/parasite/protozoal that can be transmitted to humans. 📸 I customize frequency of updates to your personal preference. ⛔ Will never bring visitors to your home. Only exception is if you explicitly offer an option to invite a cat-experienced friend over. ** Last-minute cancellations done either w/in 24 hrs of booking, or later than 12 pm day before booking (whichever one comes earlier) will not be refunded. Rover has agreed this policy can supersede theirs as long as this policy is shared on my profile or w clients before booking.
Information Deborah L. would like to know about your pet
Any quirks, fears, likes/dislikes, medications, health issues, and acting out behaviors your pets previously had when you were away. Emergency contacts, vet info & carrier location. I always want to be prepared in case of any time-sensitive building emergencies or pet health issues, which I will always contact you about first. I'll have a checklist of questions to more intimately get to know your pet's personality/temperament and your petsitting/housesitting preferences once I arrive for our Meet & Greet ;).
A typical day
I make the effort to understand each individual pet's personality, including what relaxes, excites or mentally stimulates them, or what makes them feel safe or happy. Playtime is as active or creative as your pet desires, needs or can handle. For shy cats, I've had a 100% success rate of getting them to either come to me or play from afar during the 1st visit — for the extra shy, sometimes just a mystery paw emerging from under bed to excitedly play! Many cats have loved David Teie's soothing cat music for easing stress or anxiety they initially feel while you're away. Also have supplemental sanitized cat toys if your cats like them. And of course, I'll take care of the rest ;).

Cat care experience
IG: parkslope.cat.whisperer * Accepting new clients ONLY in North Park Slope area. Meet & Greet required for 1st booking. ** When booking, please include: 1) location/cross-streets, 2) timing flexibility & preferred time range, 3) confirm if cat has contagious conditions or has had cat cold/URI before (past colds/URI are fine, but helps me take proper precautions), 4) any medical needs. Lifelong cat lover & cat behavior consultant with 20+ yrs cat care experience. I've been a cat parent to 5 cats, from kitten to senior age. Specialized in shy cats, and I prioritize enrichment and play. I understand expectations and concerns cat parents share, and am lovingly committed to keeping your cat happy, safe and healthy. Because cat sitting is a long-term passion project of mine, I care more about quality time getting to know your cat, rather than just maximizing total # of pet clients. For cat clients, I patiently commit myself to figure out how to make your cats feel safe, happy and relaxed enough around me to purr on their own timing (& will send you purring videos once they do!). If interested in cat behavior consulting, please feel free to ask. Experienced with kittens, senior cats with special needs/chronic illnesses, rescued ferals, and cats that are anxious, extremely shy or have neurological challenges. I've also administered oral, ear, eye & asthma medications. Background in feline enrichment and behavioral change via fear-free positive reinforcement. For regular repeat clients, I can offer some free behavior modification via positive reinforcement requests (i.e., clicker training, departure desensitization training & counter-conditioning for cats with separation anxiety, mental enrichment training like learning to sit, spin or high-5), harness training for airplane travel, kitten socialization or feline enrichment requests (i.e., treat treasure hunts). A proactive problem solver, I'm always prepared & communicative in troubleshooting unexpected pet problems with you. Cleaning up cat vomit, food spills or bathroom accidents are not a problem for me! I ensure your cat gets what it needs to stay healthy & for my previous cat clients, have fixed cat water fountains, bathed older cats that tripped in their poop, cleaned food bowls daily to prevent cat acne, and captured a bee already in home that cat tried to play with.
Reviews

We always appreciate Deborah’s careful attention to our guys and her ability to get them to come out and play!

Deborah is incredible. My older cat has IBD, takes medicine and can be quite shy, so I’m nervous to leave him. Deborah handled his needs with total ease and was so patient with his temperament. She went above and beyond to engage him, trying different ways to play and bond and make sure he felt safe. It was such a relief to see him so comfortable with her. If you have a high-maintenance or sensitive pet, Deborah is the absolute best person to trust. Highly recommended.

Deborah is our go-to and never lets us down! Even when our cat was feeling a little anxious, she put in a little extra time to make sure he was comfortable. She is the best!

Deborah always provides THE BEST care. Our cat is high maintenance to say the least and we’re always so comfortable knowing Deborah is taking care of her many needs. Would always hire again.
